BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The festival will present – within 4 festival evenings – an overview of contemporary dance and dance theatre from countries referred to as NEW EUROPE, i.e. Central, Eastern, and Southern European countries.

The jury will choose 6 – 7 finalists from the submitted works. The finalists' submitted works will be presented at the festival, as well as their new choreographies, which they will create to the music of Ms. Ivana Loudová, a Czech composer. Both pieces by each choreographer will compete for the Jarmila Jeřábková Award. It will be awarded to 3 winning pieces which will then be shown at the final gala performance of the festival.

CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE FESTIVAL

The person (up to 35 years old) interested in participating in the festival must submit a videorecording of its work by 15 May 2015 to the following address:

The work must comply with the following criteria:

  • dance, dance theatre
  • duration from 8 to 20 minutes
  • 1 to 5 performers
  • first showing from 2014 to 2014, or has not been presented yet
  • registered dance projects must comply with the technical parameters of the Duncan Centre Theatre (for more information refer to the section on Technical Information)

Those chosen as finalists will be asked by 30 May 2015 to create a choreography to one of the works by Ms. Ivana Loudová, a composer. As of 30 May 2015, there will be a choice of her music pieces available for the choreographers to choose from at Music for download, or the organisers will provide the music upon request.

The newly created work must comply with the above-mentioned criteria and its video recording must be submitted by 30 October 2015 to the address mentioned below. The newly created choreography will be presented at the festival alongside with the submitted competition piece.

 

FURTHER INFORMATION

The works will be judged by an international, five-member jury of Czech and international choreographers, dancers and dance theoreticians.

Three main awards will be awarded by the jury in the total amount of 130 000 CZK, where half of the sum is bound to be used for the creation of a new project. The premieres of the new dance projects of the award-winning choreographers will be presented in 2016 within the tour in partner countries (Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic).

The finalists' freestyle works will be presented at the competition with their original full-fledged light and stage design. The pieces created to Ivana Loudová's music and presented at the Saturday show will be accompanied by limited light design (see Technical Information).

Accommodation and travel costs for competing choreographers and dancers will be reimbursed by the organisers. No fees will be paid out for the presentation of the works. Intellectual property rights to Ivana Loudová's music will be taken care of by the festival organisers. Other intellectual property rights, concerning the competitors' works, are to be taken care of by the choreographers themselves. Participating artists (companies, organisations) are obliged to submit complete information concerning the works used as well as the works' authors.
