The New Europe Festival aims at hosting original
works of contemporary dance and dance theatre of artists originating
from the Central, Eastern part of Europe reaching far out to the
Baltic and Balkan regions, as well as neighbouring countries such as
Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, etc.
Selected artists up to 35 years of age will present two choreographies
at the festival and will compete for the Jarmila Jeřábková Award. One
of the choreographies will be the piece which ensured them their
nomination to the final round and the other one will be a new piece
inspired by the music of the Czech composer Aleš Březina, which they
will prepare after being admitted to the Competition.
The international jury of the Competition will award a 1st prize of
70,000 CZK, a 2nd prize of 40,000 CZK and a 3rd prize of 20,000
CZK. Funds won by the winners should be used to create a new
performance, which then will be peformed in Prague, Budapest, Lublin
and Banská Bystrica during the Festival New Europe 2018.
The Festival New Europe tour is co-organized by the partner
institutions (L1 Association in Budapest, Stowarzyszenie Artystyczne
Otwarta pracownia in Lublin, Zahrada in Banská Bystrica).

Artists interested in participating in the New Europe Festival
2017 are required to:
Registered dance projects must comply with the following parameters:
• dance, dance theatre
• duration from 8 to 20 minutes
• 1 to 5 performers
• first showing from 2015 to 2016, or a completely new work from
2017
• registered dance projects must comply with the technical
parameters of the theatre which will host the Festival (for more
information refer to the section on Technical Information)
Choreographers, that have been selected, will be
contacted by June 15th, 2017 and will then receive the music
composed by Aleš Březina in order to create the new choreography for
the competition.
Newly created dance projects must comply with the above stated
parameters and must be sent as a video recording, or as a link to
uploaded video by October 30th, 2017. Newly created
choreographies will be presented as part of the Festival 2017
together with the registered dance project.
The pieces will be prone to original light design
and stage setting. Dance projects based on contemporary music
composed by Aleš Březina, which will be performed on Saturday night,
will be performed under limited light design (for more information
refer to the section on Technical Information).
The Festival New Europe will cover the travel and accommodation
expenses of one choreographer and one dancer/collaborator of each
chosen project. The Festival does not pay fees for the
artists/performers participating in the Festival.
The organizer of the Festival is responsible for copyright fees of
Aleš Březina’s music. For all other proprietary rights, relating to
the work of competitors, the registered choreographers are
responsible. Participating artists (dance companies, organizations)
are responsible for providing complete information about the dance
projects used and their authors.
